Driving to Mexico from the US: Practical Advice from One of Our Members

Even though millions of Americans drive to Mexico every year, the trip is still one that requires significant planning and preparation. To ensure you know everything necessary for a successful drive to Mexico from the US, I interviewed Michell Huber—who recently made the trip herself.

After receiving several questions about driving to Mexico from the US in the August members-only Q&A, I decided to dedicate a full video to the topic. Since I haven’t personally made the drive myself, I reached out to Michell (one of our very own Move to Mexico members) and asked if she would be willing to chat about her experience.

Michell graciously agreed & the product of our discussion is a video packed with practical advice about driving to Mexico. I have no doubt that you will find it extremely useful as you plan your own trip.

In June 2021, Michell and her husband, Todd, drove to Querétaro, Mexico, from Austin, Texas. It was a “very uneventful drive” because they “planned and planned and PLANNED,” according to Michell.

A self-described “type A” personality, Michell detailed her trip in such a way that, when we finished talking, even I felt READY to drive to Mexico.

Hopefully, you feel the same.

Timestamps

This interview is a long one, but that’s just because there’s a lot to cover!

As with the monthly members-only Q&A videos, I provided timestamps to help you navigate the video. That being said, I highly recommend watching the whole video even if you have to break it up into shorter chunks.

Questions About Driving to Mexico?

While the On the Road in Mexico Facebook Group is likely the best place to get answers to your specific questions about driving to Mexico, Michell has agreed (again, so gracious!) to regularly check the “Driving to Mexico from the US 🚗” topic over in the forum & said she will do her best to answer any additional questions you might have.
